The transition into motherhood is often described as joyful, but many women are surprised by how isolating it can feel. While families today have access to more information than ever before, many new mothers are still searching for something equally important: community.
That's why we're excited to feature Lauren Lucas, RN, IBCLC, owner of New Mom School Liberty Station, as an upcoming guest speaker at the Inspired Birth Worker's Alliance (IBWA) Social. Lauren combines over a decade of nursing experience, formal midwifery training, and lactation expertise with a deep passion for helping mothers feel informed, connected, and supported during one of life's biggest transitions.
At our upcoming IBWA Social on Saturday, July 18th, 2026, Lauren will be sharing one of her favorite topics: helping providers and families discover the incredible resources available to new moms throughout San Diego. From support groups and therapists to educational programs and community connections, Lauren has become a trusted guide for helping mothers find the support they need.
IBWA brings together doulas, midwives, chiropractors, lactation consultants, therapists, mental health professionals, bodyworkers, and other family-centered providers who are passionate about collaborative, relationship-based care.
Our quarterly socials create opportunities for education, connection, and cross-referral throughout San Diego's perinatal and pediatric healthcare community.

Lauren: I'm an RN with 13 years of experience and formal training in midwifery. Throughout my career, I've dedicated myself to supporting the health and well-being of mothers and newborns. As a certified lactation consultant and owner of New Mom School San Diego, I combine clinical expertise with a passion for education to empower new mothers through one of life's most transformative experiences. My multidisciplinary background allows me to offer comprehensive, evidence-based support to families throughout the San Diego community.
Lauren: My own postpartum struggle inspired me to do this work. Going through that experience gave me a firsthand understanding of how important support, education, and connection are during the transition into motherhood. It also helped me recognize how many families need resources that go beyond traditional healthcare appointments.
Lauren: At New Mom School San Diego, we go beyond education. While conventional healthcare often focuses on clinical information alone, we pair expert lactation and newborn guidance with something equally powerful—real community.
Our moms don't just learn together; they're connected with other mothers in the exact same phase of motherhood, often sharing the same birth month. That means friendships happen naturally, right alongside the support they need.
Lauren: Educated moms are empowered moms. When they understand what's normal in postpartum recovery, newborn behavior, and breastfeeding, they walk into healthcare appointments with confidence. They know what questions to ask, recognize when something feels off, and don't leave without the answers they need.
Lauren: I'll be talking about resources available to support new moms in San Diego. Over the years I've connected with so many incredible groups, therapists, providers, and organizations throughout the community. I think it will be incredibly helpful to share what San Diego has to offer and how providers can better connect families with the support they need.
Lauren: I'm excited about the growing use of EMDR and ART for birth trauma, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) support for older moms, and community-based care models that recognize the importance of connection and support during the postpartum period.
Lauren: New Mom School San Diego offers an 8-week in-person series where new moms come together for 90-minute classes each week. What makes it really special is that we bring in outside experts—each one presenting on their specific specialty—so moms receive well-rounded, high-quality information from the people who know it best.
But it's not just about the content. Because the series runs over eight weeks with the same group of moms, real relationships form. By the end, these women aren't just better informed—they have a community of friends who are in the exact same phase of motherhood, often with babies born in the same month.
